Alexander Pope is a Wiltshire based artist, using woodworking techniques to create sculptural objects. A background in Cabinetmaking, having trained at Robinson House Studio and Silverlining Furniture, coupled with an MA Design from Central Saint Martins, have provided the essences of his creative practice. 

A diverse understanding of making processes, wood as a material, and a creative process, allow for the exploration of ideas centred around human nature and experience.  With a recent focus on vessels, he draws a connection between this form and the self: a sculptural object and symbolic form. 

This focus on human experience draws heavily on his own experiences in this lifetime; the journeying, flow, peaks and troughs.  The challenge that harder points bring, which conversely present opportunities for growth, expansion and new colour to flourish. Feeling…perspective…introspection…time…tenderness…vulnerability…harmony.  These are the veins which run through his works.

Works look to push into a more forward looking space, that feel light and hopeful.  With the aim of bringing a fresher approach to the potential of centuries old crafts, the look and feel of wood and it’s usage.  Colour and form are central to this outlook, providing character and personality, as well as emphasising the contemporary nature of his work.
